WHAT WE BELIEVE
Our core beliefs are the essential statements of faith that we all affirm as a community of people learning to live and love like Jesus. Clearly stating our core beliefs diminishes dissension or confusion among us. Clearly stating our core beliefs also supports our unity as a church by leaving room for a variety of “non-essential” beliefs. For example:
Whether someone holds the belief that the universe was literally created in 6 calendar days or that it was created 6 billion years ago, we hold as a core belief that God created everything.
Whether someone holds that Jesus’ death on the cross was as ransom, or as punishment, or as substitution, or as the ethical example, we hold as a core belief that Jesus' death is what allows our relationship with God to be restored.
About the Bible
We believe the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments to be the full record of God’s self-disclosure to humankind. Scripture is fully trustworthy as our final and sufficient authority for faith, life, and truth.
2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:20, 21;
John 16:12, 13; Psalm 19:7-11, 119:105
We believe that there is one living and true God, an infinite, all-knowing Spirit perfect in all His attributes, one in essence, eternally existing in three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Genesis 1:26-27; Deuteronomy 6:4;
Colossians 1:15-17; Hebrews 1:8,
2 Corinthians 13:14
We believe that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary and is God in the flesh. He is the perfect reflection of God's heart, character, beauty and love for people. Through faith in Jesus we are forgiven and brought into a right relationship with God. Jesus literally rose from death to life, ascended to heaven and one day will return to restore all things to God's original intent.
Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:14, 8:40,58, 11:33;
Acts 1:9-11; Romans 5:8-10; Colossians 1:15-17; Hebrews 1:8
About the Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit teaches, comforts, convicts and empowers us. The Holy Spirit gives each person different gifts for serving in the church and serving others in the world on the mission of God. We believe that it is through the Holy Spirit that we have the power to love and live like Jesus.
John 16:8-11; Acts 1:8-9; 2 Corinthians 3:6;
I Corinthians 12:12-14;
Romans 8:9; Ephesians 5:18
We believe that we are created for a life-giving relationship with God and others. However, because of our sin (indifference toward God and selfishness towards others), we are separated from God and experience brokenness, hurt, and pain. In his love for us, God sent His Son, Jesus, to rescue us from those consequences. We are renewed, restored, and redeemed through repenting (changing our mind and heart) of our sin and placing faith in Jesus alone.
Ephesians 2:8-10; John 1:12; Ephesians 1:7;
Romans 3:22-26, 10:9-10;
1 Corinthians 15:1-7
About the Church
The church is not a building, it is a community. It is a community of people who are learning to love and live like Jesus. We speak of the church as a global community and as a local one, like Crosspointe. The church comes together to develop its faith, to serve others and point them to Christ.
Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8, 2:1-47;
Ephesians 1:22-23, 4::11-13; 5:25-30;
1 Corinthians 12:27
About the Afterlife and End Times
We believe that there is life after physical death and there is a heaven (eternal union with God) and a hell (eternal separation from God). We believe that Jesus will one day return and bring justice and judgment to all things. The Bible uses a combination of symbolism and metaphor when discussing these topics, which generates many questions and wonderings. We approach them with humility, open hearts, and open minds.
